Legacies

The year since Silver Donald Cameron’s death has seen significant progress on several important legacies.
  • Silver Donald Cameron’s last, and many say his best, book, Blood in the Water: A True Story of Revenge in the Maritimes, was published posthumously in August 2020. (https://www.penguinrandomhouse.ca/books/606178/blood-in-the-water-by-silver-donald-cameron/9780735238053 ). It is being released in the United Kingdom and the United States in 2021 and its film and television rights have been optioned to production companies associated with Trailer Park Boys co-creator, Barrie Dunn.
  • A permanent home has been found for The Green Interview (https://thegreeninterview.com/), the collection of more than 100 video interviews, with accompanying transcripts, of the perspectives of the world’s greatest thinkers on the future of life on earth and the importance of concerted human action to secure that future. The collection is to be housed at Library and Archives Canada, where it will be freely available to scholars, teachers, activists and citizens in perpetuity. In the meantime, all the interviews and other resources are freely available on YouTube here.
  • Silversark, the cutter which Silver Donald Cameron built and sailed in Atlantic Canada and is a feature of several of his books, will become an asset of the Canadian Maritime Heritage Foundation’s Boat School. See Silversark’s Story (PDF).
  • Silver Donald Cameron’s Literary Archive has been deposited at Cape Breton University (https://beatoninstitute.com/mg-15-88).
